Industri hilirisasi agro kelapa sawit berupa fatty acid (KBLI 20115) merupakan salah satu turunan dari oleokimia yang memiliki peluang besar untuk dikembangkan di Kota Bontang, Provinsi Kalimantan Timur, mengingat provinsi tersebut memiliki perkebunan kelapa sawit seluas 1.208.697 ha dengan kapasitas produksi CPO 3,8 juta ton per tahun. Secara global konsumsi produk berbasis fatty acid dunia saat ini tumbuh sekitar 7% per tahun dengan kapasitas produksi yang cenderung tetap selama beberapa tahun terakhir. Adapun demand Asia sebesar 6,6 juta ton/tahun dan Uni Eropa sebesar 1,7 juta ton/tahun namun pemenuhan kebutuhan fatty acid tersebut baru mencapai 4,5 juta ton/tahun, sehingga terdapat peluang pasar fatty acid sebesar 3,8 juta ton/tahun.

The palm oil agro downstream industry in the form of fatty acids (KBLI 20115) is one of the derivatives of oleochemicals which has great opportunities to be developed in Bontang City, East Kalimantan Province, considering that the province has oil palm plantations covering an area of 1,208,697 ha with a CPO production capacity of 3.8 million tons per year. Globally, world consumption of fatty acid-based products is currently growing at around 7% per year with production capacity tending to remain constant over the last few years. Meanwhile, Asia's demand is 6.6 million tons/year and the European Union's is 1.7 million tons/year, but the demand for new fatty acids reaches 4.5 million tons/year, so there is a market opportunity for fatty acids of 3.8 million tons/year.
