Proyek Perdagangan Karbon Sektor Kehutanan dilakukan dengan acuan Paris Agreement yang menyatakan bahwa Pemerintah Indonesia telah menentukan target dalam upaya menurunkan emisi Gas Rumah Kaca (GRK) melalui Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) pada sektor Kehutanan dan Pemanfaatan Lahan Lainnya (FOLU) sebesar 500 Juta Ton CO₂e dengan upaya mandiri dan 729 Juta Ton CO₂e dengan bantuan internasional pada tahun 2030.

Based on records in the National Registry System (SRN) as of 2022, emissions reductions in the forestry sector have reached 285.3 million tons of CO₂e. The project aims to encourage emissions reduction and carbon trading in the forestry sector, which can include forest conservation efforts, reforestation, and other forestry activities. Impacts include increased global competition in securing supply chains and attracting investment. The potential carbon sequestration at the project site is 6.35 million tons of CO₂e.
