The development of palm sugar plantations on Jl. Negara, Petangis Village, Batu Engau District, Paser Regency, East Kalimantan, offers the potential for investment and collaboration with the Trubus Iman Islamic boarding school. The plantation is currently managed on waqf land owned by H. Toni Budi Hartono. The Trubus Iman plantation has an average of 150 trees per hectare, with approximately 1,560 trees, each 10 years old. Production began in 2021. The resulting palm sugar is a fast-growing variety. The sap harvest during the low season is at least 400 kg, and during the peak harvest, 1.1 tons per month. This translates to a yearly yield of 84,000 kg of sap, which will yield 14,400 tons of crystal palm sugar (ant sugar) at a price of Rp 29,150. This translates into annual revenue of Rp 419,760,000. A permanent small-scale factory and other supporting facilities are currently being built to increase palm sugar production and its productivity. The potential of palm sugar plantations currently focuses solely on palm sugar, although other products can be developed from palm sugar plantations, such as palm sugar palm fruit (kolang kaling) and the sale of injuk. The estimated annual profit potential from palm sugar palm fruit (kolang kaling) is IDR 16,875,000 per hectare, while from injuk it is IDR 11,250,000 per hectare. In addition to the potential profit, there is also potential for employment, as currently, the work is still done by workers from outside the region, specifically from Gorontalo Province.
